Susanne Brooks wins 1029 Hot Tomato Gold Coast Nursing Award for July

A nurse who has been helping cancer patients for almost 40 years has won 1029 Hot Tomato’s Gold Coast Nursing Award for July 2018.

Susanne Brooks has worked as an oncology nurse since 1979, and told myGC she absolutely loves her job.

“It’s a great job. I love the patients I get to work with and meeting their families. It’s really nice to know I am helping to make a difference,” she told myGC.

“I always try to be honest and truthful and give my patients as much information as I can. It’s not always easy but I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.”

Susanen said she was thrilled to win the award for July after being nominated by a former patient and her family.

“It’s amazing! Thank you so much. It’s so lovely to be recognised.”

Along with a certificate, Susanne wins $250 and is now a finalist in the Annual Awards where she could be awarded the annual winner’s cash prize of $5,000.
