Sydney mother admits to stuffing newborn baby down drain

A Sydney woman has pleaded guilty to abandoning her newborn son in a storm drain.

The 32-year-old woman allegedly dumped the infant down a 2.4m drain at Quakers Hill in November last year.

The baby boy was only discovered after a passerby heard the crying of the infant echoing from the drain.

He was rushed to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a serious but stable condition.

The woman was originally charged with attempted murder however the charge was downgraded.

She today pleaded guilty to abandoning a child under seven causing it to be in danger of death and recklessly cause grievous bodily harm.

She will be sentenced at Parramatta District Court on Friday.

Great to see this story followed up on and see it was pursued through a prosecution against this woman. For anyone sympathizing with this woman, she could have left the child anywhere, on a door step, etc somewhere safe but she chose to endanger the chil’s life by doing what she did. Inexcusable!
