Heavily armed police locked in stand-off with gunman in Adelaide

Heavily armed police have surrounded a hostel in the heart of Adelaide amid reports of a man armed with a gun.

Several police crews raced to the building on Carrington Street just before 1pm AEST.

The street has been cordoned off and neighbouring homes and businesses evacuated while police respond to the tense stand-off.

It’s understood a man has barricaded himself inside a hostel and is armed with a gun.

The man is said to be threatening police.

Officers can be seen with their guns drawn and aimed at the building while seeking shelter behind parked cars in the street.

Police rush to Adelaide primary school amid reports of kid with bomb

A primary school in Adelaide was forced into lockdown on Thursday morning after a student reportedly brought a home-made bomb to class for show and tell.

Police were called to Hallett Cove Primary School just after 9am local time after the seven-year-old boy had reportedly arrived carrying a suspicious package.

The school was forced into partial lockdown while specialist police attended and removed the device which was later deemed to have posed no risk.

It’s understood the seven-year-old had brought the device to school to show his teacher for show and tell.

Police are now speaking with the student and his parents and classes have resumed at the school.

Woman killed in single vehicle crash at Mount Pleasant

A 53-year-old woman has died in a single vehicle crash at Mount Pleasant, north-east of Adelaide.

Police said the woman was travelling along Torrens Valley Road on Monday morning when just after 10.30am she crashed between Mount Pleasant and Birdwood.

Police said the woman’s vehicle had collided with a tree.

The 53-year-old died at the scene.

She was the only person travelling in the car at the time.

The road was closed for several hours while the scene was examined and the wreckage cleared.

Elderly man seriously injured in crash between car and truck

An elderly man has been seriously injured in a horror crash between a truck and a car in Adelaide’s south.

Police said the two vehicles collided on Main South Road at Bedford Park around 4.30pm on Monday.

An elderly man, who police say was a passenger in the car, was rushed to the Flinders Medical Centre in a serious condition.

Police say traffic was significantly affected while all south bound motorists were diverted around the scene.

The road was reopened at 7.30pm.

Woman killed, man critically hurt in horror head-on crash in Adelaide

A woman has died and a man airlifted to hospital with life threatening injuries following a horror head-on crash in Adelaide.

The two cars collided head-on along Kilmore-Lancefield Road in the inner-southern suburb of Springfield at around 4.30pm on Friday.

Both drivers were critically injured.

The female driver and sole occupant of one vehicle died at the scene.

The male driver of the other vehicle was airlifted to a Melbourne hospital where he remains in a critical condition with life threatening injuries.

Investigators are urging witnesses or anyone who may have been driving along the road at the time of the accident to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
