P-plater cut free from crumpled car after horror Gold Coast crash

A teenage P-plater is recovering in hospital after being cut free from the wreck of a horror crash on the Gold Coast.

The 17-year-old boy was driving through Burleigh Waters during the early hours of Sunday morning when, shortly before 3.30am, he lost control of his car along Burleigh Street.

The boy’s white wagon slammed into a power pole before smashing into a boat which was parked on the street outside a home.

The front of the vehicle was crushed in the collision, pinning the teen in the driver’s seat.

Fire crews were forced to cut the car apart to free the 17-year-old, whose legs were crushed beneath the dashboard.

He was stabilised by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital with injuries including a suspected broken leg and a broken ankle.

Miraculously, two other passengers escaped with only minor injuries.

They too were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Man killed after van ploughs into backyard of Sydney home

A man has died after losing control of the van he was driving and ploughing through several fences before coming to a stop against a tree in the backyard of a home in Sydney’s Inner West.

The accident happened at Burwood shortly after 5.30am on Friday.

Police said the 76-year-old man was driving south along Park Road when his Toyota Hiace van left the road.

The van crashed through two fences, one metal and one wooden, before careering through the backyard of a home and coming to a stop.

Police said the van came to rest against a small tree and a third fence.

Residents found the 76-year-old unconscious on the ground.

He was the only person travelling in the van.

After being treated by paramedics at the scene, the man was rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition with pelvis and chest injuries.

Sadly, he died a short time later.

Park Road was closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene and the wreckage was cleared.

As investigations continue, police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

Two dead, three hurt after 4WD ute slams into power pole in NSW

TWO people have been killed and three others injured following a horror single vehicle crash on the NSW Central Coast.

The accident happened at Peats Ridge around 11.25pm on Friday.

Police say a white Toyota Hilux Dual-cab ute was travelling along Peats Ridge Road when it spun out of control and slammed side-on into a power pole near the intersection with Bushells Road.

Two passengers, a man aged in his 60s and a teenage boy, were killed instantly.

The driver, a 24-year-old man, and two other passengers, a second teenage boy and a woman believed to be aged in her 20s, sustained multiple non-life threatening injuries.

They were all treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Gosford Hospital.

The driver is also expected to undergo mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

Peats Ridge Road was closed for several hours while the scene was examined by the Crash Investigation Unit and the wreckage was cleared.

Investigations into what caused the crash are continuing and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Man killed, another seriously hurt in two-car crash west of Brisbane

A man has died and another has been seriously injured following a two-car crash west of Brisbane overnight.

Police said the crash happened on the Warrego Highway at Dinmore in Ipswich just after 6.10pm.

The driver of one of the vehicles, a 58-year-old Riverview man, was rushed to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with life threatening injuries.

Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries and died in hospital overnight.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 43-year-old Lowood man, was seriously injured and conveyed to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for treatment.

The highway was closed for several hours while the scene was examined and the wreckage cleared.

Investigations into the crash are continuing with police appealing for any witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers.

Driver dies after car collides head-on with tree on busy Perth road

A man has been killed after the car he was driving crashed head-on into a tree in Perth’s southern suburbs overnight.

The accident happened in East Rockingham at around 7.30pm.

Police said a black Hyundai Getz had been travelling north along Patterson Road when the vehicle collided with a tree in the centre median.

Despite the desperate attempts of a passing doctor to keep the 41-year-old male driver alive, he died at the scene.

Detectives from the Major Crash Unit after investigating and are urging anyone who may have seen the vehicle prior to the crash or the crash itself to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
