A TEENAGER from New South Wales has tragically died after falling from a high-rise balcony while celebrating schoolies week on the Gold Coast.
The 18-year-old male is believed to have fallen to his death from the 10th floor of the Surf Regency Holiday Apartments on Laycock Street in Surfers Paradise early on Thursday morning.
Emergency services were called to the hotel’s pool area about 5am. Sadly, the teen could not be saved.

There are unconfirmed reports suggesting the teen, who has been identified as Turramurra High School graduate Hamish Bidgood, may have been inhaling nitrous oxide before falling.
He is believed to have been alone in the apartment at the time.
According to the Daily Telegraph, police are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to determine whether alcohol or drugs were involved.
It’s understood his mates have cut their celebrations short to return home and are being offered counselling.
The tragedy occurred during week two of Schoolies celebrations, though a Queensland Police spokeswoman said she was unable to confirm reports that the teen was an interstate school leaver.
The spokeswoman said the teenager’s death was not being treated as suspicious and said police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
