Teen rushed to Gold Coast Uni Hospital after alleged stolen car crash

A teenage boy has been seriously injured after a suspected stolen car collided with another vehicle south west of Byron.

Emergency services were called to Bangalow Road at Bexhill, about 10km north of Lismore, around 12.20pm yesterday following reports of a two-car crash.

Police said a marked police car spotted a Subaru station wagon, believed to have been stolen, travelling west shortly before the station wagon collided with a Volkswagen Golf sedan.

The driver of the station wagon, a 17-year-old boy, was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

The driver of the sedan, a 73-year-old man, was taken to Lismore Base Hospital with minor injuries and has since been released.

A critical incident team have since been tasked to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, which will be subject to an independent review.
