Teenager dies after falling from ute tray

A teenage driver has been charged over the death of an 18-year-old, who was killed after falling from a ute tray in NSW overnight.

The tragic accident unfolded on a 4WD track off Heathcote Road at Lucas Heights around 8.15pm, when a young man fell from the utility tray of a Toyota Hilux.

Police said the driver of the ute, and his other passenger, a 19-year-old man, desperately tried to help the 18-year-old until paramedics arrived, but sadly, he died at the scene.


The 18-year-old driver was taken to Sutherland Hospital for mandatory testing, while a crime scene was established.

After being released from hospital, the driver was arrested and taken toSutherland Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, driver not fasten seatbelt properly and unrestrained passenger (x2).

The teen was granted conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Thursday 30 August.
