Thousands gearing up for Cycle Fest

THOUSANDS of cyclists are gearing up for one of the country’s leading riding events next week.

The 2014 Gold Coast Cycle Fest will be held over the October Labour Day long-weekend (4th & 5th October) and will see Metricon Stadium transformed into a cycling hub for the event

Founder Robbie McEwen said this year will be the biggest in terms of participants and what’s available for both advanced and beginner cyclists.

“Our event this year will see us conduct two jam-packed days of events both on and off the bike,” said McEwen.

“Our aim this year has been to make the event not just about the bikes, but really build on the events around the cycling, in-line with our goal of making this one of the leading cycling events in the Asia Pacific region.

“A prime example of this approach is our King of the Mountain street party to be held in Beechmont that will see Farm Grove road transformed as residents get to come out and welcome the riders who participated in the Gran. Fondo.”

Other Cycle Fest highlights include the Gran Prix Celebrity Time Trials (featuring Ironwoman Hayley Bateup, Sunrise sports reporter Mark Beretta, Hot Tomato host Luke Bradnam and many more) and Robbie’s Criterium track.

The 2014 Gold Coast Cycle Fest is open to advanced and beginner riders of all ages, with courses catering for kids and adults alike.
