Thousands line up for last-minute $100m Powerball tickets

ONE-IN-THREE Australians are estimated to have a ticket in tonight’s $100 million Powerball draw.

It’s the biggest jackpot ever offered in the game’s 22-year history and equal to the highest lottery prize ever recorded in Australia, with Oz Lotto also jackpotting to $100 million in 2012.

If the $100 million division one prize goes off and is won by a single person, it will make it the largest individual lotto prize ever claimed in Australia.

There were widespread reports of people queueing outside outlets right across the country for last minute tickets late on Thursday afternoon.

Dozens of people were photographed waiting in a long line outside the Pacific Pines Newsagency at Stockland Pacific Pines Shopping Centre, just hours ahead of the draw.

A couple from Hervey Bay in Queensland currently hold the record for the biggest lotto win in Australia after taking home $70 million in January 2016.

More recently this year, an anonymous entrant pocketed $55 million in Melbourne.

Entries close at 7.25pm.
