Thousands storm local retail stores for bargains

GOLD Coast shoppers have flocked to local retailers this morning, hoping to snare a boxing day bargain.

Australians are predicted to spend more than $2.1 billion on the first day of the post-Christmas sales.

Queenslanders are predicted to spend more than $388 million.

The figures are a considerable improvement on last year, with low interest rates and lower fuel prices said to be major contributors.
