Toronto Shooting: Gunman kills young woman and child, injures 13 others

An 18-year-old woman and 10-year-old girl have been killed by a gunman who opened fire in Toronto, injuring thirteen others.

The horror unfolded along a busy street in Toronto’s Greektown district around 10pm (Toronto Time) Sunday.

It’s understood the shooter, a male, pulled out a handgun and started firing into restaurants and cafes, fatally striking his two victims.

Thirteen other people, aged between 10 and 59, were also hurt and rushed to hospital, where they remain receiving treatment.

Police confirmed at a news conference following the incident that the shooter died following an exchange of gunfire with officers.

The motive for the attack is currently unknown, however Authorities confirmed it was not random.

Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said “no Australians are known to be among those injured in the shooting.”

Investigations into the fatal attack are ongoing.
