Traffic returns to normal at Southport after nose-to-tail sparked peak hour chaos

TRAFFIC has returned to normal in Southport, more than two hours after a nose-to-tail on Sundale Bridge sparked chaos for commuters during the evening peak hour. 

Motorists were thrown into disarray around 5pm when a number of cars collided on the eastern side of the bridge.

Drivers heading into Surfers Paradise faced extreme delays, with traffic forced to queue for kilometres.

At one point, there were even reports of traffic lining the streets of Labrador.

The incident also had a profound impact on traffic heading east towards the Broadwater on the Smith Street Motorway.

At 7pm, traffic had only just started moving through Southport and Labrador.

It followed an earlier incident on the opposite side of the bridge where a motorhome had broken down resulting in heavy delays.
