Queensland Ambulance Senior Operations Supervisor Michael Low says three ambulance units including critical care and high acuity unit responded to the accident.
“Accessing one of the patients was quite complex, the patient was down an embankment in a creek bed, approximately ten metres down (from) the road.
“The patient was extricated from the vehicle and then it was a complicated extrication winching that patient from the creek bed back up on to the road.”
The male patient had injuries to his chest and abdomen and was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition.
The girl was taken to the Queensland Children’s Hospital in a stable condition with a shoulder injury.
Northbound traffic on the motorway remains extremely heavy with lane closures in place.
