Truck driver charged with killing teenage pedestrian

A truck driver has spent the night behind bars, accused of killing a teenager Sydney’s south west.

The 16-year-old boy was struck by the truck while crossing at the intersection of Chapel Road South and Edward Street in Bankstown just before 5pm on Friday.

He was taken to Liverpool Hospital where he died a short time later.

The truck driver, a 43-year old man from Panania, was not injured but also taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene was set up and an investigation launched, with the truck driver eventually arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station.

He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasion death.
