Two arrested at Black Swan Lake protests

Two men have been arrested after protests at Black Swan Lake.

Construction has started at the borrow pit where the lake will be filled in to create a temporary car park for the Gold Coast Turf Club and give their horses more room to graze.

Up to 50 protestors attended the site this morning, forming a human chain around the site.

The two men will likely be charged with trespassing and breaching the peace.

Trucks finally managed to get into the site around 10 am after hours of waiting.

Mayor Tom Tate was scathing about the protester’s actions.

“Basically there’s just the borrow pit there, there’s no Black Swans there.”

“I don’t know what they’re dreaming about or what they’re smoking.”

After stints with the ABC and AAP, Mitchell joined 1029 Hot Tomato in 2017. He’ll be out and about bringing you the news that matters on the Coast.
