Two dead after car hits tree

TWO people have died after the car they were in left the road and hit a tree north of Adelaide overnight.

It happened on the Augusta Highway in the rural township of Beaufort, in the state’s Mid North, just after 7pm.

Police said a car left the road and hit a tree near Branch Hill Road, about 20km north of Port Wakefield.

Sadly, the two occupants of the car could not be saved and died at the scene.

Their genders and ages were not immediately known.

The double fatality takes South Australia’s road toll to 63.
