Two injured after car smashes into power pole at Runaway Bay

TWO people have been hospitalised after a car crashed into a power pole at Runaway Bay Shopping Centre this morning.

The accident happened on Lae Drive just after 9.30am.

It’s understood an elderly lady suffered a medical episode and smashed her vehicle into a pole near the Westpac Bank.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said a structure at the shopping centre is “currently considered unstable with emergency services working to stabilise the scene.”

Two people have since been taken to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment of various injuries.

One patient is understood to have a possible head injury, whilst the other sustained leg and pelvic injuries.

The pair are both in a stable condition.
