Two teens arrested following police chase on the Gold Coast

TWO Teenage boys are being questioned by police following a traffic incident on the Gold Coast last night.

Officers in the police helicopter saw a vehicle of interest in Ridgeway Avenue at Southport around 7.20pm.

The vehicle was also sighted by ground patrols in High Street at Southport but it accelerated away. Police did not attempt to intercept the vehicle.

Around 8pm the vehicle was again sighted by Polair in a dead end street off Lawson Street at Upper Coomera. Stingers were deployed at this location and were successful in puncturing the front driver’s side tyre.

The driver continued to attempt to evade police and struck the side of an unmarked police vehicle while attempting to flee the scene.

The vehicle continued on and went to enter the M1 at Helensvale where it struck a concrete barrier at low speed before ending up down a slope just off the roadway.

A 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old Upper Coomera youth were taken into custody at the scene. They are continuing to assist police with their investigation.

No one was injured during the incident.
