A small dog is dead and an elderly woman has suffered bites to her body after being mauled by a dog in Penrith, Sydney.
The horror attack happened around 7.00pm on Sunday, when an 87-year-old woman was walking her dog along Stafford Street.
Police say a larger, unleashed dog began attacking the woman’s smaller dog.

“The woman tried to save her pet but was knocked to the ground, sustaining bites to her hands and arm, as well as injuries to her head and hip,” NSW Police said in a statement.
A passing motorist rushed to the elderly woman’s aid, along with the larger dog’s owner – a 46-year-old woman – who was able to lock her dog in her vehicle.
They assisted the injured woman until paramedics arrived and took her to Nepean Hospital.
The victim’s dog died from its injuries at the scene, while the larger dog was surrendered to the council ranger to be euthanised.
Police say inquiries are continuing.
