Festival coordinator Reverend Dona Spencer said the aim of the event is to connect families and the community through the arts.
“The Flourish Christmas Festival is about breathing festiveness into the local Southport community and celebrating the arts inclusively with people from all cultures. The timing in November serves to usher in and set the tone of the Christmas season for Gold Coast families.”
To be staged at the church precinct on the corner of Scarborough and Short streets, the festival’s indoor marketplace will be a treasure trove of handmade and affordable goods signifying a simple yet more thoughtful approach to Christmas gift giving.
“The marketplace will be like an Aladdin’s Cave full of mystery and amazing gifts – you won’t know what you’ll find at the next stall,” Rev Spencer said. “It’s all about bringing back the tradition of Christmas and buying thoughtful and unique handmade gifts from talented local and international artists, for that someone special.”
Outside there will be no shortage of entertainment with the festival’s packed line-up featuring the Gold Coast City Brass Band along with local musicians, bands, buskers, dancers, and roving performers including a juggler and a balloon twister.
Unique Christmas photo opportunities will be available with a life-size nativity scene created by local artist Lesley Rankin from recycled timber and found objects.
A creative kids’ zone will keep young minds and hands busy, while festival appetites of all kinds will be satisfied with a fleet of food trucks to serve a feast of delicious dishes.
