WATCH: Ita Buttrose joins in on Golden Hearts seniors pet program celebrations at AWLQ

Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ)  celebrated their Golden Hearts Seniors Pet Support Program with a special event with Ita Buttrose at their rehoming centre at Coombabah on Thursday morning.

The television personality is an AWLQ Patron and an ambassador for the Golden Hearts Program, which supports people aged 65 and older with pet ownership.

Chatting to myGC about the initiative, Ms Buttrose said she was a huge advocate for owning a pet in your senior years.

“It’s a great way to give older people some companionship,” she said. “Often seniors think they can’t look after a pet on their own, or they worry what might happen to the pet if they get sick. The Golden Hearts program takes all the worry away, because if there is a problem the [AWLQ] will help to solve it.”
