US Actress Mischa Barton has spoken out about a sex tape that is currently being shopped around.
The 31-year-old spoke publicly at a news conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday after her lawyer obtained a restraining order preventing the person responsible from distributing the material.
“I just want to say that I’ve been put through an incredibly hard and trying time,” Barton began.

“This is a painful situation, and my absolute worst fear was realized when I learned that someone I thought I loved and trusted was filming my most intimate and private moments, without my consent, with hidden cameras.
The former OC star said she was even more horrified when she was told that someone was trying to sell the tape for money.
“Then I learned something even worse… that someone is trying to sell these videos and make them public.
Barton said she is fighting the battle so that other women don’t have to suffer the same humiliation.
“I came forward to fight this not only for myself but for all the women out there.
“I want to protect them from the pain and humiliation I’ve had to go through. No woman should have to go through this.
“It is a very hard thing to do but I am glad that I am finally standing up for myself.”
A police investigation is ongoing.
