Woman charged over violent carjacking at coast shopping centre

UPDATE @ July 19, 6.30 AM | A WOMAN has been charged over a violent carjacking at a shopping centre in Arundel.

The 32-year-old was arrested on Thursday, shortly after a public appeal by Gold Coast police.

She’s been charged with Robbery in Company and Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle over the terrifying July 5 incident, which saw a man repeatedly punched and his car stolen.

The 20-year-old was sitting in his vehicle at the back of a shopping centre on Napper Road just before 11.00pm, when he was approached by a man and woman who engaged him in conversation before assaulting him and stealing his car.

A 47-year-old Southport man was also charged with robbery with violence and in company, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possession of a restricted drug.

The woman, who police say is from Parkwood, is due to face Southport Magistrates Court today.

EARLIER @ July 18, 12.30 PM | Police are appealing for help to find a woman wanted over a violent carjacking at a shopping centre in Arundel.

A 20-year-old man was sitting in his car at the back of the shopping centre on Napper Road just before 11.00pm on July 5, when he was approached by the woman.

It’s understood she engaged the man in conversation, before jumping into the passenger seat.

A short time later, another man approached the vehicle and started threatening the victim, before the woman started punching him.

“The man got out of his vehicle and the woman jumped into the driver’s seat and drove off,” Queensland Police said.

Miraculously, the man escaped with only minor injuries.

A 47-year-old Southport man has since been arrested over the incident and is due to appear in Southport Court today charged with robbery with violence and in company, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possession of a restricted drug.

Anyone who recognises the woman in the footage is urged to contact police.

She’s described as Caucasian, 166 cm tall, with a proportionate build, possibly dark purple hair and was wearing a black top, brown coloured shorts, black jacket, white socks and black shoes.
