WATCH: Thousands cheer on Aussie athletes at meet & greet at Surfers Paradise

Thousands of people were at Surfers Paradise Beach this morning to congratulate our Aussie athletes for an incredible Games.

The atmosphere was electric, with the crowd erupting in cheer as the Australian Commonwealth Games Team arrived via buses for the celebration on the beach.

A number of athletes took part in a Q&A on stage before signing autographs and taking selfies with fans during a meet and greet.

Gold medallist swimmer Cate Campbell told myGC the support from fans has been unwavering throughout the Games.

“The fans have really made these Games,” she said. “We were told about the spirit that was going to be brought to the games, but it’s far surpassed my wildest dreams and imagination. For me, they are my highlight.”

Despite winning 5 gold medals, Mitch Larkin told myGC he was blown away with the fans.

“It’s unreal. The sun is shining and we’ve got incredible fans here… couldn’t ask for anything better on the Gold Coast,” he said.
