Water-bombing chopper crashes while fighting bushfires

A WATER-BOMBING helicopter has crashed while fighting a bushfire on the NSW South Coast.

The NSW Rural Fire Service confirmed the chopper came down while working on a 1600 hectare fire burning west of Ulludulla on Friday afternoon.

“The NSW Rural Fire Service can confirm a serious incident involving one of its contracted waterbombing helicopters working on a bush fire in the Shoalhaven Area,” the NSWRFS said in a statement.

It’s understood the helicopter crashed into trees near Hobbs Road at Woodstock about 2.15pm.

Sadly, the pilot is believed to have been killed on impact.

Emergency services remain at the scene.

No further information was available at the time of writing.
