WATCH: Whale freed after becoming trapped in shark nets on Gold Coast

UPDATE @ 12.00 PM | A WHALE has been set free after becoming entangled in shark nets at Burleigh Heads.

The distressed sub-adult Humpback Whale was spotted struggling in the water around 10.30am on Monday.

After an hour-long rescue mission, Sea World and Queensland Boating and Fisheries crews managed to successfully cut the mammal free from the nets.

EARLIER @ 10.50 AM | RESCUE crews are desperately working to free a whale caught in shark nets at Burleigh Heads.

The distressed mammal was spotted struggling in the water around 10.30am.

Live vision of the trapped animal has been posted to social media by 7NEWS Gold Coast.

It shows crews in an inflatable rescue boat attempting to remove the net from the whale’s body.
