I know it may sound a little ungrateful, but i’m sure some of you have woken up this morning a little disappointed, you just aren’t brave enough to admit it!
Sometimes our friends and family don’t exactly have the best taste and the unwanted presents we get given end up stashed right in the back of the cupboard never to be seen again, until maybe the next Christmas when you re-gift it to someone else, am I right?
Here are some ways to make good use of those unwanted gifts instead of leaving them stashed in a cupboard:

1. Give to Charity (Life Line, Salvos, Vinnies)
Instead of throwing away your unwanted presents give them to your local charity so that someone else can appreciate them. It’s the good old saying ‘What’s one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

2. Sell on Ebay or Gumtree
This is one of the smartest things to do, especially if you’re saving for a holiday or have a few extra debts to pay off after the Christmas festivities. Uploading some of your unwanted presents onto ebay is simple and is much more cost-effective than leaving your gifts stashed in a cupboard unused.
3. Return item to retailer (Refund or Exchange)
If you have a receipt you are fine to return the gift to where it was purchased from to gain a refund or an exchange, however if there is no gift receipt, you could ask the person who gave you the gift for it. If you are worried about hurting their feelings, you could try and get an exchange without a receipt, assuming there are labels on the items indicating where it came from.
4. Re-gift for a birthday
To save money you can give some of your unwanted Christmas gifts as Birthday presents throughout the year. What I do suggest however, is to make a note of who bought you each present so you don’t end up re-gifting it back to them… Awkward!
5. Throw a gift swap party
The perfect excuse for a gathering in January. Invite all of your friends over and tell them all to bring their unwanted gifts so you can have a gift swap party. You never know, you might really like that new scarf your friend hates!
