Tack the koala was covered in ticks when he was brought into the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital a few weeks ago.
Vet Andrew told myGC Tack (who is also affectionately known as Tick Tack) had lost half of his blood and needed an urgent blood transfusion.
“Native animals are usually immune to ticks, however in Tack’s case, he was overwhelmed by the number of ticks he had,” he said.

“Tack would have died without the blood transfusion so it’s very lucky he was brought in to the hospital.”
Vet Andrew said the blood transferred to Tack was from another healthy koala at the hospital.
