Woman, 71, beaten with metal bar in cruel, unprovoked attack

A 71-YEAR-OLD woman has been attacked with a metal pole, allegedly by two young men after she confronted them outside her home on Queensland Central Coast.

Police said the two men, aged 20 and 21, approached the woman’s home on Brisbane Road at Barney Point about 7.20pm last night and started shouting.

It’s alleged the men damaged a window and a gate before striking the woman in the stomach with a metal bar after she came out and asked them to leave.

The woman called Triple Zero and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police rushed to the scene and apprehended the two men nearby.

They were arrested and have each since been charged with one count of serious assault of a person over the age of 60, wilful damage and forcible entry.

The pair was due to appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court today.
