Woman fights for life in hospital after horror domestic violence attack

A MAN has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly ignored a court order, broke into his former partner’s home and bashed her almost to death in Central West NSW.

The 46-year-old woman was found with life-threatening head injuries in her unit on Horsley Drive at Coonabarabran about 2am on Thursday.

Police found the woman after being sent to the address following reports of an assault.

The woman was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken by ambulance to the local hospital.

She has since been airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle for specialist treatment.

Police said she remains there in a critical condition.

Her former partner, a 48-year-old man was arrested around eight hours later and charged with a list of offences, including attempted murder and contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO.

The man was refused bail overnight and due to appear in Dubbo Local Court today, also charged with break and enter dwelling and inflict grievous bodily harm, and two counts of common assault.
