It’s understood Samantha dropped her kids off at school that morning and then went and had coffee with friends.
According to police, Samantha told her friends she had a midday appointment, however never showed up.
In a statement released on Friday, police confirmed Homicide Squad detectives have now taken over the investigation into Samantha’s death.
“Based on the circumstances of her death, it is strongly believed to be suspicious and will now be investigated by detectives from the Homicide Squad,” Victoria Police said.
“[We’re] also investigating whether there was any interference with the crime scene.”
Investigators have spoken to a 42-year old Paynesville man who was known to Samantha, however he was released without charge and enquiries are ongoing.
Police are appealing for anyone who can provide information on Samantha’s movements between 11am and 3.30pm on Monday, 23 July to come forward.
They’re also asking anyone with dashcam footage on Phillip Island on Monday to contact them.
