Woman raped by midnight intruder

A WOMAN has been subjected to a horrifying ordeal after an intruder allegedly broke into her room and raped her in the middle the night on the NSW North Coast.

It allegedly happened at a place of accommodation in Evans Head, roughly 70km south of Byron Bay, about 11pm on Thursday, October 25.

The 31-year-old woman was asleep when an unknown man allegedly entered her room and sexually assaulted her, police said.

The woman reported the incident to police and detectives commenced an investigation, police said.

Shortly after 11 o’clock last night, detectives arrested the woman’s alleged attacker on Cashmore Street.

The 53-year-old man was taken to Lismore Police Station where he was charged with aggravated enter dwelling with intent to commit sexual intercourse and sexual intercourse without consent.

He was remanded in custody overnight an appeared in Lismore Local Court this morning where he was refused bail ahead of his second appearance on Monday.
