Woman repeatedly stabbed while taking out her rubbish bins

A WOMAN is in a serious condition after being stabbed multiple times by a stranger while taking out her rubbish bins in north Queensland.

Police said the 35-year-old woman was wheeling out the rubbish bins on Latchford Street in Pimlico around 9.20pm last night, when she was allegedly approached by a man and stabbed multiple times in the arms and chest.

The woman was rushed to Townsville Base Hospital in a serious condition.

A 40-year-old man was arrested in a nearby park a short time later.

He was charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today.

Police say the man and women were not known to each other and that the attack is believed to have been completely random.
