Woman subjected to “horrendous” sex attack in Southport home

A woman has allegedly been subjected to a terrifying sex attack inside her home on the Gold Coast overnight.

Police say a man broke into the woman’s unit on Edmund Rice Drive at Southport during the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man allegedly entered through the woman’s bedroom window while she was asleep and once inside, allegedly jumped on her bed and sexually assaulted her.

Following the frightening attack, the man fled from the scene on foot and remains at large.

Terrified, the woman called for help and was taken to hospital for assessment.

Police, including the dog quad, swooped on the area and searched the surrounding streets for the woman’s attacker – described as being of a slim build, 175 cm tall, unshaven with olive complexion – but to no avail.

Investigating officers have described the alleged attack as “horrendous”.

Detectives have spent the morning combing through the Southport unit complex and interviewing neighbours.

Anyone with any information that could assist police with their investigation is urged to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
