Work begins on $1 billion Jewel project

DEMOLITION work has finally begun at the billion dollar Jewel project site in Surfers Paradise.

Four building are set to be removed from the site on Old Burleigh Road to make way for three crystal-like towers.

The Bulletin reports demolition will take around four months, with the first stage of construction to kick off from April 2015.

The Jewel development will feature: A six star hotel with 300 suites and apartments in a central 45 level tower, 215 luxury apartments over 41 levels in the northern tower, 108 premium residences over 35 levels in the beachfront tower, and an array of resort facilities within a three level podium over four levels of underground parking.
