Young dad dies after being found with ‘extensive burns’ on NSW roadside

A MAN is due to face court today, charged with the murder of a young father who was found with horrific burns on the side of a road in Lake Macquarie.

Shortly after 1am on Monday 20 August, a taxi driver pulled over on Oakdale Road at Whitebridge after noticing a man in distress by the side of the road.

The 23-year-old had suffered extensive burns and the taxi driver contacted emergency services.

The injured man was treated at the scene by paramedics, however he died on the way to Royal North Shore Hospital.

Following investigations, a 35-year-old man handed himself into Belmont Police Station about 11.30am on Tuesday, where he was arrested.

He was charged with murder and is due to appear in Newcastle Local Court today.

Police say the pair are alleged to have been known to each other.
