Young woman critical after tipper truck smashes into car

A WOMAN is fighting for life after a truck allegedly smashed into the back of her car at an intersection in Blacktown overnight.

The 24-year-old was travelling east on the Great Western Highway in her Suzuki Swift when she came to a stop at the intersection of Flushcombe Road just before 7.30pm.

Police say a Hino tipper truck, being driven by a 35-year-old man, was also travelling east when it collided with the rear of the stationary car.

The woman suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to Westmead Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the tipper was also taken to hospital for mandatory tests, however he was not injured.

Investigations into the crash are ongoing with police appealing for witnesses to come forward.
