Gold Coast woman wakes to find 1.5m shark belly up in her backyard
A Gold Coast woman received quite a shock on Sunday after waking to find a 1.5 metre bull shark in her backyard.
Jodie Atkins of Campbell Street at Sorrento found the shark dead on the banks of her backyard canal at around 10.30am AEST.
News quickly spread of the discovery, with neighbours rushing to catch a glimpse of the giant fish.

After snapping a few photos with the sea creature, neighbours Eghard van der Hoven, 50, and young 12-year-old Stirling McInnes strapped the shark’s carcass to the back of a Jet Ski and towed it out into the currents.

Mr Hoven’s 17-year-old daughter, Frances, told myGC it was believed the shark had washed up overnight.
“It has been dead for a while,” Frances said. “It was starting to smell.”
