1 dead, 2 injured after truck ploughs through front yards, hits house in NSW
A TRUCK has ploughed through a number of front yards and smashed into a house in Sydney’s west, killing one person and injuring two others, one of them critically.
The horrific accident happened on Burnett Street in Merrylands around 12.40pm on Saturday.
Police say the truck collided with a Hyundai travelling in the opposite direction before leaving the road and mounting the nature strip.
The out-of-control truck then careered through two front yards, hitting a man in the first one and two others in the second, before coming to rest in a house.
One of the victims, an elderly man, was killed instantly, while two other men have been rushed to hospital.
Police say one of the surviving victims has life-threatening injuries.
The truck driver and driver of the Hyundai, both male, escaped uninjured and have been taken to hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
Emergency services remain at the scene, including officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit, and as a result, Burnett Street remains closed between Blackwood Road and Merrylands Road.
A report will be prepared for the information of The Coroner.
