There’s only ‘1 year to go’ until the opening ceremony of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and to celebrate, a number of events are being held across the country today.
Gold Coasters are being encouraged to head along to Surfers Paradise beach at 5.30pm to enjoy three hours of free entertainment headlined by Australian chart toppers Sheppard, Sunset City and GC Commonwealth Games mascot Borobi and his mascoteers.
Athletes Giaan Rooney, Cate Campbell, Steve Moneghetti and Shannon Eckstein will also join in on festivities, with free sport demonstrations and photo opportunities with the sporting stars available for fans.

In Sydney, the celebrations are heading to the netball courts, with a fun interstate netball challenge.
Elite athletes including Dani Stevens, Kurt Fearnley, Paige Hadley and Kristiana Manu’a will show off their skills as they battle it out with the public to try and shoot as many netball goals as they can within one hour. The target is 2,018 goals!
Olympic cyclist Anna Meares, 400m runner Morgan Mitchell and netballers Jo Weston and Liz Watson will also participate in the same challenge at Federation Square in Melbourne to mark the 1 year countdown until the games.
