100 pounds of cannabis found in boot of car during traffic stop

A MOTORIST who was pulled over in Logan for talking on his mobile phone while driving has been arrested and charged after police allegedly found 100 pounds of marijuana stashed in the boot of his car.

Police said officers intercepted the vehicle in Underwood on Wednesday night after they observed the driver using his mobile phone while driving.

During a search of the car, officers allegedly located 100 pounds of dried cannabis in vacuum sealed bags in the boot, along with $5100 in $100 notes.

Police said the drugs had a potential estimated street value of $400,000.

The 31-year-old male driver was arrested and charged with possessing dangerous drugs and property acquired for committing a drug offence.

Detectives from Acacia Ridge CIB then referred the man to Australian Border Force officials as an unlawful non-citizen.

He was due to front Richlands Magistrates Court this morning.
