100 volunteers, 3 choppers search for man missing in NSW floods

A SUBMERGED boat has been spotted from the air in the search for a man missing in floodwaters in Central West NSW.

More than 100 volunteers and three helicopters are searching for the 49-year-old man who was reported missing south-west of Forbes yesterday morning.

Police said the man was last seen around 12.30pm on Friday. His car and boat trailer – minus the boat – were found parked at the intersection of Marsden and Morello Roads in Burcher.

Emergency services initiated a search of the Burcher/Nerang Cowal/Lake Cowal area around 8.20am on Saturday.

A helicopter spotted a submerged boat in the area at around 4pm but search and rescue operations were suspended at dusk.

The search resumed at first light this morning, involving dozens of police, paramedics, fire fighters and volunteers from the State Emergency Service.

Police divers have been called to the scene to see whether or not the submerged boat belongs to the missing man.
