Man charged after 10yo girl indecently assaulted while waiting for bus
UPDATE: A man has been charged after a 10-year-old girl was indecently assaulted while waiting at a bus stop in Wollongong on Tuesday.
Police say the girl was with her brother at a bus stop on Burelli Street shortly before 7.15am, when a stranger hugged her tightly and indecently assaulted her.
Following investigations, police arrested a 50-year-old man at a nearby location yesterday and took him to Wollongong Police Station.
He has since been charged with indecent assault to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 19 July.
EARLIER: A 10-year-old girl has been left traumatised after she was indecently assaulted by a man while waiting at a bus stop in Wollongong yesterday.
Police say the girl was with her brother at a bus stop on Burelli Street shortly before 7.15am, when a stranger hugged her tightly and indecently assaulted her.
The girl was distressed and her brother intervened with the man fleeing onto a bus.
Police are currently checking for CCTV in the area and have since released a description of a man who they believe can assist with the investigation.
He is described as being of Caucasian or of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, aged 45-55, 152cm-165cm tall with a ‘chubby’ build and dark hair.
At the time he was wearing grey full-length overalls, over a green shirt, and work boots.
