Woman charged after running over pedestrian on zebra crossing

A woman has been charged following the death of a pedestrian at Richmond last month.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Lennox and West Market Streets just after 2pm, Saturday 26 December 2015, following reports a woman had been struck by a car.

The 78-year-old local woman was allegedly attempting to cross at a pedestrian crossing when she was hit by a Toyota Rav4.

She was taken to Westmead Hospital where she died.

The driver of the Toyota, a 68-year-old woman, was spoken to at the time and taken to Hawkesbury Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

Following the investigation, yesterday officers charged the woman with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death and not give way to pedestrian on a pedestrian crossing.

She will appear at Windsor Local Court on Thursday 25 February 2016.
