14 people rescued off Qld after boat overturns, catches fire
UPDATE @ 10.50am | A GROUP of more than a dozen people have now been rescued after their charter boat overturned and caught fire off Gladstone this morning.
Emergency services say all occupants are safely aboard another vessel and have all been accounted for.
“13 patients are on a vessel making their way back to land for further assessment by paramedics,” Queensland Ambulance Services confirmed.
“One stable patient is on-board Rescue 300 helicopter en-route to Gladstone Hospital after being treated for exhaustion and hypothermia.”
EARLIER | RESCUE crews are on their way to save over a dozen people stranded in waters off Queensland after their boat overturned and caught alight.
It’s understood the incident happened off Gladstone this morning and involves a charter boat.
Queensland Ambulance Service says the group, believed to be around 14 people, managed to evacuate the boat.However, the smaller boat they are now on is believed to be taking on water as well.
Two helicopters have been dispatched to the scene to try and rescue the group.
It is unknown whether anybody needs medical treatment at this stage.
