15yo charged over failed carjacking at knifepoint, Gold Coast

A 15-year-old boy has been charged after allegedly attempting to steal a car at knife point on the Gold Coast last night.

Police say a 40-year-old man was returning to his parked car from an ATM at a Helensvale shopping centre around 6.30pm, when he was approached by a group of teens.

One of them allegedly demanded the car keys, but the man refused to hand them over.

The 15-year-old then allegedly produced a knife, causing the man to run from the scene.

Unfortunately he fell while trying to get away, suffering shoulder and minor hand injuries. Members of the public came to his aid, while the boy fled the scene.

Police found the 15-year-old from Edens Landing at a nearby bus stop a short time later.

He’s been charged with attempted armed robbery.

Investigations are continuing.
