16 cats found dead, drowned and dumped in bushland

POLICE are searching for a person or group of people responsible for the callous killing of 16 cats west of Sydney.

The animals were found dead in bushland behind an industrial complex on Econo Place at Silverdale on Thursday.

A local rescue group made the grisly discovery and alerted police.

The cats’ bodies were found in varying stages of decomposition, police said.

Post mortem examinations have been carried out on some of the cats, revealing they had been drowned.

“[we] have been told the cats were living in bushland, and none appear to have been micro-chipped,” police said.

“[we] are working with the RSPCA, the rescue group and local businesses in an effort to identify who is responsible for the deaths.”

Anyone with information that could assist police is urged to come forward and call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
