18yo dies after car rolled during police pursuit on the Gold Coast

An 18-year-old has died in hospital overnight, after the stolen car he was travelling in rolled during a police pursuit on the Gold Coast yesterday.

The man was part of a group of three believed to be involved in a break and enter in Maudsland earlier yesterday morning, before fleeing in a vehicle with stolen number plates to Oxenford and ditching the car.

A different 18 year old man was arrested at the scene there, while the two others in the group allegedly stole a utility vehicle and fled.

Police tracked the vehicle to Southport where a police pursuit reportedly broke out.

The ute was allegedly being driven dangerously, when it crashed and rolled on Queen Street around 9.30am.

The 18-year-old driver was taken to hospital in a critical condition, where he sadly passed away last night.

The 17-year-old passenger was treated for minor injuries and has since been charged with break and enter, burglary and possession of dangerous drugs.

The Ethical Standards Command is still investigating the matter, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission.

Queen Street was blocked off for most of the day while investigations were carried out.
