A bit of good news for struggling businesses on the southern Gold Coast, with a million-dollar injection on the way from the state government and Destination Gold Coast.
$1 million worth of new ‘Play Money’ vouchers are being released for people to spend within the border zone.
Destination Gold Coast CEO Patricia O’Callaghan has told myGC that this will be a welcome relief for so many.

“The focus of these vouchers is to support our border businesses because we know it’s been really tough down there.
From 9.00 am, thousands of vouchers will be made available on the Destination Gold Coast website.
$50 vouchers will be made available for tours, attractions and retail offerings, while $100 vouchers will be available for accommodation.
It’s in order to help the southern Gold Coast community, that’s been split in two by border barricades for months.
It’s all part of the $14.55 million border business support package that’s been rolled out for the area as well.
With the borders not set to ease until December 17, businesses have a while to go before traffic returns to normal through the area.
“We know there’s no one silver bullet to help what we’ve all been going through these last 18 months but we know our border businesses have particular doing it tough,” Ms O’Callghan told myGC.
“But we’ve overwhelmingly had really positive feedback from our border businesses about this initiative.
“We’ve got over 150 participating businesses down there. And we also have 18,000 vouchers which our locals can spend.
“We’re expecting that this will put around $2 million into the local economy, targetted at that region and we’re really looking forward to selling these vouchers out,” Ms O’Callaghan said.
