IT’S been six months since AFL fans got their footy fix and tonight the drought is over, with the 2018 AFL season officially kicking off.
Last year’s Premiership winners Richmond are taking on Carlton in Round 1 at the MCG on Thursday night, with the Tigers tipped to continue last year’s good form.
It’s expected a large crowd of at least 90,000 people will pack the stadium, with the season opener due to kick off at 7.25pm.

The Gold Coast Suns are also hoping to make 2018 their year, despite having to hit the road for most of the first half of the season due to the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
The boys in red and yellow take on North Melbourne at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns on Saturday night, with new coach Stuart Dew confident they’ll be able to start the season off well against the Kangaroos.
The Suns first home game at Metricon will take place on Saturday 2 June, 2018.
